Just Baked: A modern day Chocolat story

There is a local cupcake shop here in Metro Detroit called Just Baked. Once you get past any potential funny name connotations (ahem), then you will discover this place to be an amazing little gem. They just opened about 2 years ago, and they already have 5 locations. Way to be, you awesome cupcake people!

Here’s the deal. They currently have 43 AMAZING cupcake flavors. That’s way more than Baskin Robbins. These folks are creative, and they have a serious love for cupcakes. It’s contagious. Check out the names of some of their flavors. Cinnamon Donut. Blueberry Cobbler. The Fat Elvis. Chocolate Cherry Cheesecake. S’mores. Apple Pie.

Oh my goodness. Is your mouth watering yet?

This lovely shop reminds me of the movie Chocolat. Chocolat tells the story of a young mother, played by Juliette Binoche, who arrives at a fictional, repressed French village with her six-year-old daughter and opens a small chocolaterie. At first, she faces resistance and skepticism, but soon Vianne begins to work her magic and help those around her. The townspeople have no choice but to be won-over by her exuberance and her delicious chocolates. It’s rather charming, and I’m a guy saying this.

Her little chocolate shop sort of revives the town, and then breathes life back into the people. Her chocolate creations excite her patrons, adding color to their drab existence. Things just weren’t the same since she came to their town and opened her shop’s doors.

I think Just Baked did the same thing. It’s not a stretch for me to say that this small business has done their part to bring happiness and excitement back into the city. We need a bunch of people with the Just Baked mentality to rise up and follow their lead.

So yes, the whole purpose of this blog was just to highlight this local Michigan company. To the folks who started Just Baked, if you ever stumble upon this, keep up the good work. Your cupcakes are the best ever.
